Bosch Compress ~ Hybrid Water Heater

Globaltowne Announces the Arrival of the Bosch Compress Hybrid Water Heater

Bosch Compress Heat Pump ~ HP-200-1
ZERO Emissions – Clean electric operation and no venting requirements
SIMPLE installation
10-Year limited warranty

The 50 gallon capacity Bosch Compress Hybrid
Electric Water Heater is ultra efficient and shares
technology similar to an Energy Star® qualified
Refrigerator. Rather than taking heat from inside the
appliance and moving it outside as a refrigerator
does; Bosch hybrid technology takes heat from
outside the appliance and uses it to heat the water!
Using a specially designed heat pump system, the
heat is transferred from the surrounding air to the
water stored in a well insulated storage tank,
resulting in efficient hot water and zero direct
greenhouse gas emissions!

Why Bosch?
For 125 years, Bosch has remained committed to quality, innovation and value within a broad range of products including automotive parts, power tools, home appliances and water heaters. Bosch is highly recommended by professional contractors and is a brand that loyal customers refer to their friends and family.

Heating domestic hot water is a home’s third largest use of
energy. With the technology used in a Bosch Hybrid Water
Heater, this can be reduced significantly, saving valuable
resources and money.
Compared to a traditional tank water heater, the Bosch Hybrid
Water Heater is twice as effective with savings of $307 (59%
reduction on your water heating costs), making it the smart
choice for your water heating needs with an estimated payback
of just 3 years!

Installation
The ideal installation for a Bosch Hybrid Water Heater is in a warm
unconditioned climate such as an attic, basement or garage with at
least 7' x 10' x 10' cubic feet of air space. The efficiency of the Heat
Pump is higher in warmer climates, however you can experience
savings in all climates. This unit directly replaces a 50 gallon water
heater and the energy factor of 2.2 ensures savings.

The Bosch Hybrid Water Heater also cools and dehumidifies
unconditioned air as an extra benefit, saving money and energy on
air conditioning. Installing in unconditioned spaces with air
temperatures between 45°F - 115°F will yield the highest
efficiencies for the Bosch Hybrid Water Heater. With use of the
ducted air option, the Bosch Compress uses the energy of the
unconditioned air to supply cooler, dehumidified air into the air
duct, reducing the overall energy load of your home.

Recirculation Pumps~ Armstrong

Globaltowne sells Armstrong Recirc Pumps

Recirculation Pumps can be used to provide instant hot water at a faucet or from radiant floors using water or a glycol type liquid for floor warming.

Armstrong is a leader in pump technology and these pumps are made in New York and Canada in the Buffalo / Niagara area.

Used with a tankless heater, the recirculation pump circulates water from a small tank heater within a loop to each faucet. The pump can have a timer
and a temperature sensor so the loop stays warm but the mini tank water heater is not on all the time. When a faucet is turned on, the tankless heater sees the flow and turns on and the heated water flows through a check valve and to the open faucet.

Armstrong has an all in one system called the ASTRO EXPRESS. The Astro Express System works like a thermostat. The snap-acting valve opens and closes to circulate hot water so it stays at a specific temperature throughout the distribution system. Hot water at each tap stays hot, and cold water stays cold.
A timer automatically ensures that the water is recirculated regularly; and can be set for multiple activation periods per day. It can be set to circulate water only during normal usage hours (i.e. not in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep). The timer includes manual on/off overrides to normal automatic operation.
Each system comes with one valve, which is installed at the faucet furthest away from the water heater. This ensures that hot water is delivered to all the faucets in between. A home that has a distribution line with a number of branches, will need a valve for the faucet at the end of each branch. Additional valves are available separately

The Astro 20 BU-T circulator is a small pump with twice the capacity of other circulators. It can handle more flow to more destinations (up to 5 valves) for the kind of “branch plumbing” that can make hot water distribution in a large or ranch-style home such a challenge.
Most dedicated return systems are oversized and have a short duty cycle when the aquastat is activated. Our injection system uses lower flow to maintain a more stable water temperature at the hot water faucet and prevent noise and erosion. Plus, larger openings ensure easier flow, so several people can turn on taps throughout the house and they will all get hot water instantly.
FEATURES
  • 24-hour clock timer
  • 15 minute user selectable intervals
  • On/Off/Auto switch_ 120Vac, 1/25 HP, .5A
  • 5 ft power cord_ Max head: 5.8 ft
  • Max flow: 11.5 GPM_ Brass full unions
  • EPDM O-rings
  • 1 male and 2 female ¾” tailpieces
  • Wet rotor design ensures virtually silent operation
  • Bronze housing for potable water use
  • High starting torque overcomes mineral build-up
  • Built for durability with bronze casing, stainless steel shaft and graphite bearings

STRONGER
The Astro Express is a clear winner for quality, durability and strength. With a rugged, forged-brass valve and a powerful circulator with the capacity of anything else on the market.
FASTER
No dedicated lines make for a quick installation, and quality parts and an adjustable flow rate mean zero maintenance. Our one-size-fits-all solution ensures you’ll always have the right model on your truck. Install it in as little as 30 minutes flat.
BETTER
Offer your customers something more than just a standard recirculation system.
Give them something better: the Astro Express System is the highest-quality, most dependable system on the market. The pump can handle the widest range of homes, from a small bungalow to a sprawling ranch-style house. The system is powerful enough to ensure that several faucets can be in use at the same time throughout the house, without any impact on temperature or speed of hot water delivery

Flow & Temperature Adjustment for Bosch 1000P

The new Bosch 1000P that comes in either natural gas or liquid propane has a control knob for adjusting the flow and a slide adjustment for adjusting the heat on the front of the heater.

The Bosch AquaStar 1000P is a 75,000 BTU Gas Tankless Water Heater. The control knob on the right is the Temperature Adjustment knob and is for adjusting the flow of water through the heater which has the ability to speed the flow of water up making it cooler or slowing it down and making it hotter. The slide control in the middle is for adjusting the temperature of of the water by adjusting the height of the flame. When the slide is positioned on the small flame symbol the burners will be low and when the slide is on the high flame symbol the burners will get higher and the temperature hotter.

Below is how turning the Temperature Adjustment knob effects the heater:

Knob PositionClockwiseCounter-clockwise
Degree Rise90° F45° F
Activation Rate0.5 GPM1.1 GPM
Max Flow Rate1.3 GPM2.6 GPM

As the temperature adjustment knob is turned counter-clockwise, the output temperature will lower and the activation rate of the heater will be raised. Turning the knob clockwise will raise the temperature and lower the activation rate.

When sliding the slide adjustment to the left small flame will give lower flame and cooler temperatures and sliding the slide to the right will give hotter tenmperatures and a higher flame.

Bosch Aquastar 125B Water Valve Assembly

The Bosch Aquastar 125B gas tankless water heater was first manufactored back in the late 1980s. The 125B series has since been discontinued and replaced with newer compact models such as the 1600P gas tankless water heater, and later the Bosch Therm 520PN.

When the Bosch Aquastar 125B model first came out, it had a dual port brass water valve and then years later the Bosch Aquastar 125B series heater had a new single port polymer water valve which was much easier to service and maintain.

The replacement water valve for the 125B series heater that had a dual port brass water valve assembly is now a single port polymer watervalve retrofit kit. This water valve assembly retrofit kit is required for any heater with a serial number beginning with 380 or lower. This kit includes new cold and hot water pipes, washers and the single port polymer water valve so that it can be easily installed in the place of the old brass water valve. The new water valve retrofit kit for the 125B part number #8707002499 is available. Please visit the link.  There is also a service bulletin available for installation of the new retrofit water valve and the bulletin number is TWH-G1-37 and you can find this on the Bosch website at www.bosch-climate.us

The newer Bosch Aquastar model 125B gas tankless water heaters that had a serial number beginning with 381 or higher had the single port poly water valve. The new single port Polymer water valve for the 125B part number #8707002649 is available. Please visit the link.

Gas Tankless in Bedrooms/Bathrooms

All of the Bosch gas tankless water heaters that are naturally drafting such as the 1000P, 1600P and the 1600H take thier combustion air that is needed to fire the heater from the location they are installed in. These heaters can never be installed in a bedroom or bathroom where the door is normally kept closed. This is against the National Fuel Gas Code and is very dangerous as the heater would deplete all of the oxygen in the room and will cause serious illness or death.

Per the National Fuel Gas Code manual, the only exception to having a naturally drafting gas tankless water heater installed in a bedroom or bathroom is if it is installed in a closet that has self closing hinges and that is sealed when it closes as to not take its combustion air from the bedroom or bathroom. The gas tankless water heater in the closet would then have to be able to get its combustion air from another source such as from the main part of the home, the attic area or from the outside. The amount of combustion air required for the gas tankless heater would be determined per the installation manual and vents to other sources of fresh air would have to be sized accordingly.

Direct vent gas tankless water heaters such as the Bosch 2400ES/2700ES are sealed combustion units and have the ability to take the intake air from the outside. These direct vent heaters are the only ones approved to be installed in a bedroom or bathroom. These heaters have a twin pipe system for the exhaust/intake air to the outside. If these heaters are to be installed in a bedroom or bathroom then the intake air for the heater must come from the outside.

Bosch Tankless Water Heater Reviews

Occasionally our customers tell us that they are ready to make their Bosch tankless water heater purchase but they have a question about comments or reviews they have read on the internet. We too have read these reviews and so has Bosch.

Many of the online reviews are quite positive and this is consistent with the feedback we get from most of our Bosch tankless water heater customers. Some online reviews are negative and we have talked through these issues directly with Bosch.

Of the negative Bosch tankless water heater reviews that are posted on the internet most of these customers are do-it-yourself (DIY) customers who have not installed the product per the instructions in the installation manual!

The two most common mistakes made during the installation of a tankless water heater have to do with either the venting or the gas line (natural gas or liquid propane).

The installation manual for each Bosch tankless water heater specified the venting material that must be used to properly vent the gas tankless water heater. Read these instructions and follow them closely. The instructions must be followed in order to have your tankless hot water heater work properly, to maintain your warranty and to protect the health and safety of you and your family.

As for the gas line, this is probably the single-most common reason that customers do not get the proper performance out of their tankless water heater! Many older tank model heaters can get away with small diameter gas lines because they have a lower BTU/hr input. Remember that tank style heaters use a smaller amount of propane at a time, but they are going on and off all day long. Tankless water heaters use a larger amount of gas at once but they are only on when you demand hot water.

The properties of running natural gas or propane through a pipe are well known and well documented. They are not specific to the manufacturer of the tankless water heater. But, you must carefully size your gas line to ensure that it can provide the maximum BTU/hr input of your tankless water heater. Additionally, you must ensure that your gas line is properly sized to provide for running your furnace or other gas products at the same time as your tankless water heater is running.

The proper tool for measuring gas pressure is a manometer. Make sure that you or your installer have a manometer at the time of installation. This will save you from having to bring your installer back later!

When customers undersize their gas lines their tankless water heater will either under-perform or not work at all. Most of the negative customer postings on the internet are actually from home owners who simply did not provide enough gas pressure to their heater.

Unfortunately, many customers purchase their tankless water heaters from sources that are truly not qualified to sell the products and are unable to provide their customers with this key information on venting and gas line sizing. Always purchase your tankless water heater from an Authorized Distributor.

GlobalTowne is an Authorized Bosch Distributor and we have extensive training from Bosch on the proper installation of their line of tankless water heaters.

As always, make sure that you properly maintain your water heater. Clean out the water filter once a year and descale your tankless water heater yearly, especially if you have hard water.

If you need help determining the proper venting for your tankless water heater or if you need assistance sizing your gas line, please give us a call at 888.726.9752.

TSTAT2 Wireless Remote Control for Bosch Tankless Heaters

The TSTAT2 Wireless Remote Control provides remote temperature control of your Bosch tankless water heater.

It will work with the Bosch AquaStar 2700ES and 2400ES tankless water heaters.

It will also work with the following obsolete Bosch AquaStar models: Bosch 250SX / 250SXO / 2400E / 2400EO.

The TSTAT2 also works with the following Bosch Therm models: 830ES / 940ES / 940ESO / C 1050ES / C 1210ES / C1210ESC.

And it works with the following obsolete Bosch wholesale tankless water heaters: 635ES / 635ESO / 715ES / 800ES / 920ES / 920ESC.

The TSTAT2 Wireless Remote Control is designed to remotely control just the temperature of your Bosch tankless water heater. It does not have a reset button.

Installation is quick and easy. It just requires opening up the control panel, dropping in a small circuit board and connecting the circuit board to the control panel mother board with a short connector wire. The installation manual describes the process of getting your TSTAT2 to sync with your Bosch hot water heater.

Multiple TSTAT2 wireless remotes can be sync'ed with the same Bosch water heater. Temperature control cannot be adjusted while the water heater is in use for safety reasons.

The Bosch wireless remote is great for controlling the output temperature of your tankless water heater if you have a jacuzzi or hot tub. It can also be handy if you want to crank up the water temperature when running certain appliances, such as your dishwasher.

Generally speaking, you want to set your water temperature at the lowest level that will provide you with hot enough water for your shower. The lower the water temperature, the faster the water flows through your Bosch tankless water heater. The faster the water flows through the heater, the less likely that you will experience any on/off cycles if your application flow rate is too near the minimum activation rate of your hot water heater.

Also, why heat up water too hot to use and then have to cool it down seconds later because it is too hot? Lowering the temperature will save you money. Having precise digital remote control of your Bosch tankless water heater's output temperature will allow you to minimize your natural gas or liquid propane consumption - and save you money! Plus , it's fun....
